Ian Sands is a first year Ph.D. student in Biomedical Engineering. He received his undergraduate degree in BME from the University of Connecticut. Much of his undergraduate degree was dedicated towards studying nucleic acid delivery into cartilage tissue utilizing Nanopieces as a delivery vector. He was awarded the SURF and IDEA grants by the university as an undergraduate to conduct his research independently throughout his senior year. His current project under Dr. Chen is nucleic acid delivery into targeted neural tissue to induce gene silencing effects. His hobbies include hiking, gardening, and baking.
